Cubs win 2-0

The first two games of this series were played at Wrigley Field. Alec Mills shut down the Royals with 7 shutout innings. Sadler and Wick each had scoreless frames, with Wick getting the save.

Kris Bryant hit his first home run and Javy Baez had an RBI. The Cubs only managed 4 hits this game, but it was enough to win a pitcher's duel.

August 4th:

Cubs win 5-4

Kyle Hendricks rebounded nicely with 7 innings of 2 run ball. Jeffress, Kimbrel and Ryan finished it off in dramatic fashion. Kimbrel struggled again, but the Cubs squeaked it out.

Offensive highlights included Jason Heyward's first home run of the season, a no doubt 2 run shot in the second. Jason Kipnis and Willson Contreras also went yard. overall 5 runs on 9 hits.

Cubs lose 13-2

Tyler Chatwood's third start of the season did not go well. in 2.1 innings, he gave up 8 runs on 11 hits. He did strike out 4 and walked 0. But the Royals were hitting everything and hard. The bullpen gave up runs again, with the offenders being Underwood, Winkler, and Kimbrel.

Offensively, there were just 2 runs on 7 hits. Hoerner and Caratini had RBIs. It's the kind of game you throw int he trash and move on. It happens.

Cubs improve to 10-3, and remain in first place.
