Love Letters From Pronk is an ongoing series where Pronk shares his love for somebody connected to the Cubs. Sometimes funny, sometimes weird, sometimes touching, Pronk likes to make 100% sure people know that they are loved, and best expresses that through gushing letters. Today's recipient: former Cub and analyst Doug Glanville.
Doug Glanville is a former Cubs player, current writer and analyst. As a Cub, he had two stints with the team. One as a prospect and making the big leagues. The second stint was at the back end of his career, as he was a bench player who had a huge RBI in the 2003 NLCS.
Doug is also a fantastic writer, who authored "The Game From Where I Stand." I've previously written about how much I loved that book, as Doug's self awareness is among some of the best you'll ever see. It's a must read.
Doug,
Thank you for being you. I've written before about your fantastic perspective and writing, and this is a continuation of praise. After spending 2020 trying to find new ways to understand the game of baseball as I wrote for Cubs DNA, "The Game From Where I Stand" jumps out as a highlight of the year. My one complaint: When is your next book coming out? Amazon has nothing listed. :-(
I loved having you on Marquee this year. A new Cubs TV channel is obviously something a 20 year fan like myself would enjoy, but seeing it loaded with talent from top to bottom really made the execution happen. I loved seeing your on-screen work, and hope that continues in 2021 and beyond.
Thank you for still contributing to baseball, even after your playing days ended. Your methodical, down-to-earth approach to analyzing is among the best. How you balance TV work with GK Alliance without quality taking a hit is improbable, yet you pull it off.
XOXO,
Pronk
