Forbidden Love is a Cubs DNA series where our staff waxes poetic about a player on a team other than the Cubs. Maybe even one you think they should hate. In this installment, Staci introduces our first Dodger into the mix with ace starting pitcher Walker Buehler.
Okay, we're going to start this one off right now by referring to the man appropriately--he is Walker F'n Buehler. Why, you might ask? Well...
Ah, yes. Buehler is just a bit fond of dropping the f-bomb at, well, just about all times. So much so that Dodgers fans have literally nicknamed him Walker F'n Buehler. No, exactly like that... that's how they write it out. Go check Twitter. He's so famous for dropping f-bombs that there are even f'n t-shirts.
It's not just his fondness for expletives that got him that name, though. I mean, have you ever watched the man pitch? Buehler's fastball regularly sits around 98-99 mph, and he can control it with precision. In his rookie 2018 season, he finished the year with a 2.62 ERA and came back in 2019 to the tune of a 3.26 ERA with just north of 10 K/9 in 182.1 IP. Walker F'n Buehler was worth 5 fWAR for the Dodgers last year and, probably most importantly for the Dodgers, had two sparkling performances in the postseason, giving up just one run in 12.1 IP.
I'm not gonna lie--I have total Walker F'n Buehler envy. As Clayton Kershaw gets older and his back becomes more of an issue, the Dodgers already have an ace waiting right there to take over. I don't know how they keep finding these f'n guys, but they just... do.
Oh, and in case you're wondering, Walker F'n Buehler also seems to be a pretty stand up guy. For the second year in a row, he held a big f'n charity golf tournament in his home state of Kentucky in November, this time raising money for research into genetic disorders like the one that caused the death of Rich Hill's son Brooks. The tournament raised $100,000 and Buehler's swing looked pretty good while he was at it.
I'd never condone any Cardinals-type hacking or anything like that, but it certainly would be f'n nice to have a Walker F'n Buehler of our own.
