Minor League Road Trip: Peoria Chiefs vs. South Bend Cubs

In late July, I traveled to Peoria IL for work. That nice town is home of the Peoria Chiefs, an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. I saw that they were playing the South Bend Cubs while I would be in town, so I had to go, right?

The Chiefs are a class A affiliate for the dreaded St. Louis Cardinals. They've played at Dozer park in downtown Peoria since 2002.

I had the pleasure of going to the game with some friends, Lucky McMahon and his Mom, Paula. You might remember that he's a long time friend of Cubs DNA. As they live in downstate Illinois, they road tripped up to join me for a fun night. Truly the highlight of the evening was seeing how well Lucky walks now. When I first met him in 2021, He needed a walker or his hand held pretty consistently. His balance has improved so much, he does not really need the walker anymore! Way to go kiddo!!!

For the game itself, the SB Cubs won big. That was nice! After the game was fireworks. As a part of faith and family night, Church Has Left The Building hosted a worship concert. Definitely a full night with a lot of different experiences, and we enjoyed all of it!

Food was solid. The highlight was was Philly Cheesesteak helmet nachos. They weren't quite as good as the South bend Cubs' variation, but I loved it.

Getting to attend a minor league game with a kid was fun. It's a uniquely fun experience getting to see baseball through a kid's eyes, noticing what they fixate on, that kind of thing. Lucky got to spin a prize wheel for some fun posters and baseball cards, and he nabbed a foul ball. I have attended 2 games with Lucky, and he's gotten 2 fouls. He lives up to his namesake for sure!

Overall, an enjoyable night. The stadium wasn't the coolest or had the best food, but it was a nice well balanced baseball experience. Getting to attend with good friends was the true perk!

Thanks for joining me Lucky & Paula!
