Minor League Monday: Week 15 of MiLB


Cubs affiliates completed week 15 of action. As the season begins to wind down, we've got some updates


AAA - Iowa Cubs

The I-Cubs are now 39-49 after losing against Indianapolis and then winning in Omaha.

  • Nick Martini has a solid .889 OPS, with some pop.

  • Trace Thompson leads the team with 14 home runs and 42 RBI. He hit a grand slam when I saw him.

  • The rotation has struggled. Out of the 5 players who have started 8 games or more, the lowest ERA among them is 4.96. Ouch.

  • Jake Jewell is having a nice season out of the bullpen, with 4/5 saves converted, and a 2.78 ERA in 32 innings.

  • Ben Leeper has a tiny 1.31 ERA in 17 appearances.


AA - Tennessee Smokies

The Smokies are now 38-48. They dropped consecutive series against Montgomery and Rocket City

  • Cam Sanders has a great 102 strikeouts in 83 innings, but also sports a 5.49 ERA. He's given up 15 dingers on the year, but otherwise has a 1.30 WHIP and .220 average.

  • Cayne Ueckert has a tidy 1.61 ERA, and a tiny .82 WHIP, while saving 7/8 chances.

  • Brennen Davis has a nice .905 OPS, Elevated by 10 dingers. 29 of his 54 hits have been for extra bases, as he's slugging .515.

  • Christopher Morel has a team leading 13 homers, , but only has a .685 OPS.


High-A - South Bend Cubs

The South Bend Cubs are now 40-49 after winning their series against Peoria then splitting Fort Wayne.

  • Derek Casey has a tidy 3.24 ERA in 11 starts.

  • Matteo Bocchi has split between the pen and ortation, but has a nice 2.94 ERA, couple with a WHIP of 1 and average of just .181.

  • Delvin Zinn might have an OPS of only .630, but he's now stolen 42 bags.

  • Nelson Vekasquez leads this squad with 12 dingers, and a decent .776 OPS.

Low-A - Myrtle Beach Pelicans

Myrtle Beach Pelicans improved to 45-45. The swept (yes a full 6 games) against Columbia last week, Before splitting against Charleston

  • Ed Howard now sports a .490 OPS for the year, as he unfortunately continues to struggle with the bat.

  • The Pelicans top hitter for the year is Ryan Reynolds, boasting a .922 OPS despite only 3 dingers.

  • DJ Herz might only be 2-4 in 15 starts. but he has a nice 3.83 ERA, and hitters have only a .159 average off him.
