Sergio Alcantara has been a bit of journeyman. Playing great defense, he bounced around the Diamondbacks and Tigers organizations before falling victim to a roster crunch. The Cubs picked him up, and he's been a solid player in a time of need this year. After putting up a fantastic .940 OPS for Iowa, he's filled in the middle infield at the big league level admirably. He's had a few solid hits and walks plenty. But the thing that really excites me is his defense. With just two errors in 200 innings in the field, he's played some solid defense up the middle. He may not have gotten the attention of any big pundits, but his solid play has helped keep the Cubs afloat despite a streak of injuries. He's been better than we could have hoped, and therein has earned some love.

Glad to have you in the Cubs organization. Usually, if a big league team goes to their 5th best player on the depth chart, they are in serious trouble. But your solid play has helped carry the baton for the team. The consistent glove has been a welcome addition, and you've made a few great plays to boot.
I didn't have high hopes for your bat, yet you've maintained a solid walk rate and been valuable at the plate. That's huge for a player buried int he depth chart to be able to do that. You might not have been a big time prospect, yet you've found a way to adjust and stick around. That shows bellyfire, and being a valuable part of this organization is no small achievement. I hope that you build on the success of this year and find yourself forcing your way up the depth chart. You've got some skills, and could be close to unlocking the next level.
