Patrick Wisdom has found a home in Chicago. After bouncing around the Cardinals minor league system and a couple of other teams, former top pick Patrick Wisdom won player of the week. This was after a monster 7 home runs in his first 34 at bats in 2021. Red hot doesn't even begin to cover it. Wisdom has earned a love letter for sure.
Dear Patrick,
Congratulations on winning player of the week. It was the first time a Cub had won since... Kris Bryant in May. being in the same category as a former MVP is pretty solid company. Congrats on a job well done. Keep it up, and maybe KB will have a little competition for the award this year.
It's really inspirational to see you come on so big. Lots and lots of players bounce around the minors. Lots of top picks never tap into their potential, and fizzle out. Lots of players with talent don't make it for one reason or another. Few players have the mental tenacity to keep at it despite a growing list of failures. Baseball requires more than just physical skills. It requires willpower. It requires awareness. And it requires the mentality to bounce back day after day after day. You've shown that special something throughout your career. The results may have not been their early, but as you've developed they have shown up more and more. Now that you've had a taste, I hope that your development continues. A player of the week award is nice, but that's not where your ceiling lies. Your ceiling is much higher. I will continue to root for you to get there.
