Love Letters from Cubs DNA: Jessica Bryant
Love Letters From Pronk is an ongoing series where Pronk shares his love for somebody connected to the Cubs. Sometimes funny, sometimes weird, Pronk likes to make 100% sure people know that they are loved, and best expresses that through gushing letters. This time we're going off-script a bit and doing a letter from the entire Cubs DNA staff to someone we think really deserves it.
Dearest Jessica,
We don't normally do these from the entire staff, but we're just gonna say that we all have a collective crush on you and have for quite some time. We won't say you're our favorite of the Cubs sig. others because that would be like choosing between our many buttkicking sisters, but you're a bright, beautiful light in a world that could easily swallow you up. We need more people just like you!
From early on, you've been nothing but giving of yourself and your time--one of the most active in Cubs Charities, you're always at the game when it's time to auction off the players' Favorite Things baskets!
You also did something we're not sure we'd ever seen before--when you married that other Bryant, you sent hand-written thank you notes to every fan who sent wedding gifts to you. Who sends thank you notes to complete strangers? You do, that's who!
We also think that a lot of people forget you're a buttkicking athlete in your own right--we see you, Jess, with your mad softball AND basketball skillzzzzz. We have no doubt that if you hadn't been on the IL a few years ago when the Cubs ladies played the MIL wives, you guys would've kicked their butts easily.
Recently, we learned that you're going to be a mother, and this made us unnaturally excited. First, because you announced it to the world on social media in an awesome way!
But more importantly, it gave some pretty weighty context to all the media chatter surrounding some pretty big decisions that would not only impact that other, more famous Bryant, but you and the little dude you've been busy baking. Trades? Grievances? Extensions? A few of us are parents and we can all only imagine the added stress all the media talking heads and clickbait must've added to what can already be a stressful time. Still, you handled the pressure with grace and class, continually remaining positive in your outlook regardless of the turmoil swirling around your family.
And look at you now! Beautiful, baby-bumped and making us all cry with posts like these!
Staci even cried, and we're not sure she actually has a heart! But we know you do, and it's one of the things we adore about you.
So consider this love letter our way of giving back to you in the small way we can. We don't think you get nearly the love you deserve, but just know that to us, you're as sparkly as any Bryant out there.
