Forbidden Love: Buster Posey

Forbidden Love is a Cubs DNA series where our staff waxes poetic about a player on a team other than the Cubs. Maybe even one you think they should hate. In this installment, Tina gives some extra love to San Francisco Giant Catcher, Buster Posey.

This past week, SF Giants' veteran catcher Buster Posey announced that he would opt out of the shortened 2020 season. He had every reason to - he and his wife had just adopted premature twin girls still in NICU - but he was still criticized by this move by some.

I can't believe it has taken me so long to write a Forbidden Love article on Buster. He's been a solid player and has been one of the league's best catchers the last 10 years. But just take a look at his proper name - Gerald Dempsey Posey III. Flashy, isn't it? Perhaps it's that his personality is a little bland? I mean, He ain't no Yadi!

Damn straight, no neck tats for me!

He's pretty quiet on social media, so when he does post, it's often to promote something attached to his foundation to benefit pediatric cancer research.

Or to post some funny Toyota commercials he and his wife Kristen appear in-

Or when the MLB couldn't get its act together on how or when to open up the baseball season-

Buster and Kristen had been trying to expand their family for the last couple of years, so when their babies arrived prematurely, the decision to opt out of the shortened season was made.

While some criticized his move, it was the right decision for him to opt out of the season. Hearty congratulations and all the best to Buster and his family. There's always next year, right?
